Cisco is the 'Official Network Technology Partner' for 2012 RNC Conventions

By David Gitonga, TMCnet Contributing Writer

Cisco (News - Alert) had been named the “Official Network Technology Partner” for the 2012 Republican National Convention that ran from August 27-30. While making the announcement, the committee of arrangements CEO, William Harris, said that “Cisco has transformed how people connect, communicate and collaborate” and that its support would prove critical to the convention and help make the convention open and accessible to everyone around the world.

Some of the areas that Cisco was involved in included the operational support for switching and routing the core network infrastructure at the convention that included the WAN, VoIP, wireless access points and the monitoring of real-time networks. Harris said that as the “first political convention of the social media age,” Cisco’s secure and reliable network would help enable an interactive event in the Times Forum with citizens across the country.

Cisco’s chief marketing officer and senior vice president of the Worldwide Government Affairs and Global Corporate Communications, Blair Christie, said that Cisco was “proud to work with the Republican Convention to provide an unmatched user experience to convention attendees as well as the audience of the historic event.” Christie revealed that more than ever before, Cisco has been operating in a seamless, real-time communications environment that is essential for its success. Cisco’s networking technology “offers the flexibility, security and mobility necessary to meet the unique needs of events like the Republican National Convention.”

Voters were able to get live video and highlights direct from the convention floor following convention sessions. Complete mobility without losing connectivity was available across seven convention-related locations for staff and guests by use of wireless access points.

The agreement would see Cisco install, test and configure the equipment to be used and provide both remote and on-site operational support for all 2012 RNC conventions. Security was tight at the convention with expanded surveillance technology as well.
