Verizon Wireless Revisits Emergency Plans during the Democratic National Convention

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

Verizon Wireless (News - Alert) reportedly ensured that the coverage and the equipment needs during the Democratic National Convention (DNC) at Charlotte, NC are properly met by employing detailed emergency plans in case of severe weather and flooding.

Officials with Verizon Wireless commented that their team regularly met the with DNC committee and city officials to discuss and prepare for possible flooding and high winds. They had put the resources and procedures in place to keep their network strong through the heavy rains being dumped in Charlotte, especially post-hurricane Isaac.

The company exclaimed that fleets of Cells on Wheels (COWS), Cells on Light Trucks (COLTS), and generators on trailers (GOaTS) were kept on stand-by to cater to any emergency needs for equipment if any power outages happened while at the same time not compromising the resources already in place to support the surge in network traffic during the DNC.

Verizon Wireless claimed that it prepares year-round for natural disasters and other emergencies so customers can rely on the company’s network to keep them connected, even when the unexpected happens. Its investments in constructing new sites with on-site backup power to carrying out comprehensive emergency response plans have come in handy during crisis situations over the years.

Verizon’s network supposedly remained strong during and after recent hurricanes, wildfires, tornadoes, floods and other emergencies, enabling emergency response officials and its customers were able to seamlessly communicate with others and access the necessary services available to them via Verizon’s network.

The company added that it worked diligently to make every major venue and meeting space has excellent wireless coverage and runs at optimum capacity along with reinforced connectivity.

In related news, Verizon Wireless launched a suite of apps for visually impaired customers and completed the acquisition of Hughes Telematics.
