Google's Voter Information Tool Provides Undecided Voters with Information

By Brittany Walters-Bearden, TMCnet Contributor

As the presidential election draws near, there is one thing on everyone’s mind: voting. For those who have not made their decision about who they want to vote for yet, trying to disseminate information can be more than a little challenging. The majority of the information that undecided voters are being presented with is biased, especially if they live in a swing state, where negative advertising reigns supreme.

To combat the difficulty of obtaining unbiased information with which undecided voters can make an informed decision, Google (News - Alert) has provided undecided voters with a Voter Information Tool. The tool gathers information from across the Web, presenting it to users in various content formats.

For those who are looking for basic information on each candidate, there is an introduction to the contenders, their social media tools, campaign videos, and access to the most important stories that have appeared in the media. For those who want to scratch beneath the surface and learn more about each candidate, there are a number of different functions: the ability to track ad spending and fundraising, graphs that gives insight into trends in sentiment monitoring, access to the results of Google consumer surveys, ballot summaries, and more. Perhaps the most compelling feature is YouTube (News - Alert) Live, which brings together news from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Larry King, ABC News, Univision, Buzz Feed, and Al Jazeera.

To make voting even easier, Google also integrates its mapping feature to help users locate a polling place, simplifying the process of actually casting one’s vote after one’s decision has been made. Although the focus is naturally on the upcoming American election, Google’s Voter Information Tool also offers the same features for Dutch, Mexican, Senegalese, French, Egyptian, Brazilian, and Ghanaian voters.

To get started searching for news related to candidates and the issues, undecided voters can visit here.
