Email Archiving Market Grows Rapidly with 'Champion' Vendors, Products

By Daniel Brecht, Contributing Writer

Info-Tech Research Group Inc., a global provider of research, tools, advice, email archival and general IT project help, recently released its Email Archiving Vendor Landscape report, showing the Info-Tech Research Group findings for the Champions of the Email Archiving market: Proofpoint, Jatheon, CommVault (News - Alert) and Barracuda.

Each company has implemented an email archiving solution not only to store old e-mails, manage and preserve data, but to reduce the cost of mail storage on the server(s).

According to the report, Proofpoint, a provider of cloud-based email security, offers a hybrid SaaS (News - Alert) and appliance infrastructure, so the appliance resides at the customer’s location until automatically routed through a cloud storage gateway device.

As SFGate states, it is the only cloud solution recipient of the "Innovation Award" for being the only vendor and product to be FISMA certified. The product is ideal for businesses or users wanting to embrace e-mail encryption and on-demand email archiving.

In the report, Jatheon got the "Value Award" for its simple, secure and scalable email archiving solution. The firm offers network appliances for archiving, indexing and retrieving email, and sets itself apart from other vendors by granting organizations or individuals a simple and powerful e-mail archiving and retention management solution. The system archives messages and produces them when relevant, as in e-discovery circumstances.

CommVault is also ranked as a Champion in the report (for a second consecutive year in both Enterprise Backup Software and Email Archiving) for its holistic content-archiving functionality and solutions for backup and recovery. According to the report, CommVault’s data archiving Simpana software has overcome challenges related to storage growth and information retention with network attached storage (NAS) and with appropriate tiers of storage – whether on-site, on disks, tapes or in cloud storage.

With REST/HTTP integration built-in, CommVault’s services allow the transferring of archived data into public or private clouds; it is a modular approach to data and information management. This explains why CommVault Systems Inc. is, nowadays, very appealing to the SMB market.

Barracuda is also named Champion for its Message Archiver product, noted as a leader for its data protection capabilities to protect and archive instant messaging content. The solution is popular in organizations to index, store and back up emails. The easy-to-use, affordable email archiving solution caters to emails to make efficient use of storage technology inside any IT organization.

Thanks to the Info-Tech Research Group’s findings, the report identifies some of today’s industries that contribute to the growth of the email archiving market since 2011. In fact, the information collected, analyzed and evaluated by the Info-Tech Research Group shows the rapid movement of email users to using archiving vendors’ products or services for enterprise deployment.

Champion vendors noted in the report play a part in the marketing trends by offering archiving solutions as on-premises products and/or as services via the cloud. The end result means the worldwide archiving market will see billions in revenue for the years ahead, at least until 2015, according to “The Radicati Group (News - Alert), Inc.”
