TMCnet E-mail Hosting Week in Review

By Erin Harrison, Executive Editor, Cloud Computing

As cloud communication services continue to proliferate, companies are leveraging services such as e-mail hosting not only to streamline operations, but also to cut costs and save time. TMCnet was there this week to report on all the latest e-mail hosting news. Here are a few highlights:

Vaultive officials confirmed the general availability of Vaultive for Hosted Exchange, which is an enterprise-class cloud data encryption solution built to help customers encrypt data-at-rest and data-in-use within the Hosted Microsoft (News - Alert) Exchange environment.

This solution works at its best for Hosted Exchange environments such as Microsoft Office 365, which encrypts data-at-rest and data-in-use.

In addition, this solution is backed by Vaultive patent-pending form of 256-bit AES encryption that conserves certain characteristics of the data so it can be searched, sorted, indexed, and otherwise processed in the cloud without ever being decrypted, and these features helps enterprise IT retain complete control of the encryption keys. In other e-mail hosting news, SherWeb, an e-mail hosting service provider, recently revealed that its SkyNox online backup solution now encompasses additional capabilities.

SkyNox, which is a complete business-grade data protection and recovery solution, specifically addresses the need for businesses to ensure their mission-critical data is kept safe in an increasingly mobile and global workplace. With SkyNox, SMBs have the assurance that they can easily recover their data and ensure business continuity in case of disaster.

The solution powers seamless backup operations and fast recovery for both workstations and servers. Backed-up files are encrypted using 448-bit Blowfish encryption, transferred via a proprietary protocol, and then safely stored in SherWeb's Tier 3+ datacenter.

Finally this week, InterCall (News - Alert), a large conferencing and collaboration services provider, launched its e-mail hosting solution, Microsoft Office 365, that will benefit small businesses via its eCommerce portal.

In a press release, Kathleen Finato, senior vice president of Marketing and Business Development at InterCall, said, “The InterCall solution for Office 365 drives productivity gains and saves time and money for small business owners. It enables companies to access shared calendars and e-mails from anywhere, collaborate on documents, launch ad hoc meetings, and leverage all the savings of cloud-based communications without an on-premise technology investment.”

The company’s Office 365 plans offer tools including Productivity Start-up and Lync Online that are seamlessly integrated with audio conferencing and ideal for SMBs in the U.S. In fact, to educate these businesses on the major benefits that can seen with combining audio with Office 365, InterCall will launch its "Redefining the Cloud" advertising campaign. These will power business productivity resources, previously available only to mid-sized to large companies.
