Microsoft Tweaks Email Hosting Solution Outlook 13 with Hybrid Cache Mode

By Oliver VanDervoort, Contributing Writer

Email hosting has become a good business over the last few years. Most of that business is being done by the big firms like Microsoft (News - Alert), but every once in awhile an email hosting companythat wants to knock the big boys from their perch comes along. The smaller companies trying to take on Microsoft is why the company continues to improve its email hosting service all the time, even if those tweaks aren’t all that impressive to anyone other than an IT manager. Those changes can mean the difference between succeeding at your job and having real problems popping up at the office.

Microsoft’s latest tweak to their email hosting program Outlook is one that will make it easier for users to see their information. The newest version of Outlook, Outlook 13 will bring a hybrid cached mode to the email hosting program. This particular mode means that the program will work out the fastest way to bring the e-mail, whether it is from the OST or the Exchange server. This is considered the first real change to Outlook since 2003, which could mean that the technology giant simply knows that its email hosting program is one of the best out there or it could mean that the company knows they need to bring at least a few changes to their go to offering.

In the long run, this new mode won’t be a feature that the average e-mail user is paying a ton of attention to. IT managers on the other hand will like an email hosting program that allows for a quick computerized decision to display the e-mails by caching them or just using their online look. The best part of this new tweak is that apparently Microsoft 13 is able to quickly and easily switch from the online to local access loading. The company had not perfected this for its signature email hosting program when Outlook 13 was first announced in August, but it looks like Microsoft may have it down now.
