Outlook 2013 and Email Hosting Solution Hosted Exchange 2013 Provide EAS

By Robbie Pleasant, TMCnet Contributor

Outlook 2013 is shaping up to be a nice improvement from previous versions. Just recently, email hosting provider Microsoft (News - Alert) revealed that Outlook 2013 will come with additional support for the Internet Message Access Protocol, as well as provide support for Exchange Active Sync.

According to a post on the official Outlook blog, Outlook 2013 will be able to sync e-mail, contacts, calendars, and tasks from one’s Outlook.com account through the EAS protocol. Older versions of the Outlook Connector protocol will no longer be needed to sync accounts with other devices and services, making syncing easier and more convenient than ever.

With the IMPA support, message syncing and sending becomes a quicker and more manageable function, allowing you to choose how much mail gets synced and kept. However, it does mean that download headers are no longer supported in Outlook 2013, but for many, that is a price they’re willing to pay.

According to Microsoft officials, "Syncing/sending messages is done in the background, so you no longer have to wait for sync to complete in order to use Outlook. General comments about Outlook's performance when using IMAP was the top issue we heard from all of you, and we believe this change will improve the experience quite a bit.”

Similarly, SherWeb offers Hosted Exchange 2013, which provides not only a streamlined interface, but also an enhanced Outlook Web App for mobile devices that can be utilized as a nice alternative to Microsoft Outlook. Additionally, the robust offering powers unified contacts, free mailbox migration services and technical support at all hours of the day.

Whichever service you use for email hosting, both are providing some nice capabilities that make syncing and using e-mail easier and more convenient. Free trials of both are available, offering one to two months of complimentary service before forcing consumers to commit to a purchase. Yet, both make excellent choices for keeping your e-mail synced and connected whenever you are on-the-go.
