By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

DigitalTown announced that people and organizations can privately register on its webmail platform, TrustedWebmail, starting December 28, 2012. The company is developing a nationwide network covering over 27,000 local online communities for high school students, alumni and local citizens.

Preregistration is also allowed at the TrustedWebmail website until December 26, 2012 as part of the private registration launch.

TrustedWebmail will be available for registration to the general public for seven to 30 days following the private signup.

DigitalTown will be launching TrustedWebmail in two parts – its webmail platform and its administration platform. The administration platform will be launching in beta format.

It was revealed that TrustedWebmail was developed over a period of six years by five companies. It will feature administrative rights at the highest level, making it a cost-effective e-mail service suitable for professionals, schools and parents. The pricing is set at $5 per user per year.

There will be no embedded advertising.

E-mail addresses offered by TrustedWebmail will fall into seven broad categories: school spirit, education, sports, mascots, professional/ business, city/state and status. There will be almost 25,500 domains to choose from.

DigitalTown’s more than 20,000 school spirit websites will be able to further provide more unique e-mail address to its schools, coaches, students and parents for a safe, clean advertisement free e-mail platform.

The platform recently acquired 2,700 new .com domain names, including 400 new high school spirit sites, 500+ city names, the top 300 mascot names representing all levels of sports, and more than 1,000 professional and business names for its TrustedWebmail.

TrustedWebmail is used currently in two states, and is opening its e-mail registration to the general population as it completes its beta testing this month.

The webmail launch will be a followed by a second tool called Trusted Cell Phone (News - Alert), a predator-averse parental/coach/teacher monitoring application which allows the monitoring of all texts (SMS or MMS), phone calls, or images into or out of any android based cellular phone under your control.
