It was a busy week in the Email Hosting sector. Here are some of the major stories from TMCnet.
Metalogix, a provider of content lifecycle management solutions, recently unveiled the latest version of its SharePoint replication product. The newly released Metalogix Replicator 5.1 features enhanced security to encrypt content as it is replicated across environments, and gives users the ability to control who can and cannot create connections.
It also has the ability to add site collection administrators and portal site connections.
In a story from TMCnet’s Kasey Schefflin-Emrich, selling products and services may have become a whole lot easier with the development of social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter (News - Alert). Yet, these sites haven't proven as effective means of marketing as traditional email. According to the Direct Marketing Association, email is more effective than advertising through social media by three to one. Retailers and businesses can tailor information to specific customers through email rather than attempting to draw in customers with one all-inclusive marketing strategy.
A 2012 study by Ipsos found that 85 percent of those surveyed said they use the Internet for email, while only 62 percent use it for social networking.
Also, TMCnet’s Colleen Lynch reports that Google recently announced it would be dropping Google (News - Alert) Sync. The drop is set for Jan. 30, 2013, and would apply to all users and devices coming after that date.
Also, SharePoint Hoster, a Microsoft (News - Alert) SharePoint Hosting Partner that specializes in SharePoint 2010 as well as other email hosting solutions, recently introduced free SharePoint 2013 tutorials and guides on its blog.
And Frontier Capital has separated itself from Azaleos Corporation, a provider of managed email hosting, collaboration and unified communications service. Azaleos provides remotely managed services for Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint and Lync, using advanced software to remotely monitor and manage email systems.
Azaleos was acquired by Avanade, a global business technology solutions and managed services provider, and subsidiary of Microsoft Corporation, on Dec. 18, 2012.
