2012's Top Five Fresh Email Marketing Strategies

By Rachel Ramsey, TMCnet Contributor

The number of marketing strategies is enormous and constantly growing. The important thing for companies to remember is to pick the strategies that will improve your business, expand your marketing reach, and bring you quicker to your business goals.

Effective marketing strategies increase the number of subscribers on the email list (resulting in more page views and sales), build a company’s authority, and build stronger relationships with subscribers.

Yo Noguchi shares the five fresh and fun email marketing ideas for 2012:

1. Location Based Marketing (LBM)

LBM is all about delivering content to consumers’ mobile devices based on their location. A report by ComScore found that 16.7 million U.S. mobile subscribers used location-based “check-in” services on their phones in March 2011, and that check-in service users showed a high propensity for mobile media usage, including accessing retail sites and shopping guides. LBM can be achieved using a number of technologies, including Mobile Phone Tracker, WiFi (News - Alert) and RFID.

2. Improve your irresistible free offer

Replace your offer with an even higher value freebie to offer site visitors. Keep up with the latest trends and see what’s in high demand.

3. Launch a new product or program

There is always something to launch, whether it’s a new product or program, or a re-launch of a previous successful program. Email marketing should supply information that persuades the readers to make the right purchasing decision and then keep interested customers in the loop after the purchase has been made in order to sell other products and services.

4. Connect with a new joint venture partner

Establish a partnership with a new strategic alliance or joint venture partner. Try variations on last year’s stratgies.

5. Add video to your marketing

The most powerful and effective way to connect and build trust with visitors to your site is by adding video to online marketing.

For those looking to increase their email marketing strategy even more than these five steps, ExactTarget is hosting a live webcast to share exclusive research and insight on how top brands are using interactive marketing as a competitive differentiator. The webcast, held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 23, will feature data from the new “Forrester (News - Alert) Wave: Email Marketing Vendors, Q1 2012” report and offer exclusive insights into how marketers are combating digital disruption with personalized cross-channel interactive marketing campaigns on email, Twitter, Facebook (News - Alert) and the Web.
