News broke this week that Qualcomm Enterprise Services was named the leading telematics service provider in the most recent competitive assessment assembled by ABI research. Other companies cited in the study were Telogis (News - Alert), Trimble, Masternaught and Xata.

Another company that was in the news this week was Hughes Telematics, which has entered into a partnership with Towers Watson. The companies will work together in the usage-based insurance space to utilize driving data to provide better insurance products and services. “This alliance will leverage HTI’s strength in automotive telematics and Towers Watson’s analytical expertise to deliver cost-effective UBI data services for the automobile insurance industry,” said Kevin Link, senior vice president, Hughes (News - Alert) Telematics Inc.

Speaking of usage-based insurance and telematics, Sprint, a leader in the embedded M2M solutions space, will be an active partner in the upcoming Insurance Telematics USA 2012 conference, taking place from September 5-6 at the Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel in Chicago, Illinois. Sprint (News - Alert) will be demonstrating its end-to-end, comprehensive UBI solution at booth number 307. Representatives from the company will also be taking part in panels, including “Map Your Route to Take Insurance Telematics to Mass Market” on September 6.
