The machine to machine (M2M) space is constantly evolving, and it can be a challenge to keep up with all of the relevant news. This week, there were announcements and breaking news stories from many companies in the embedded M2M solutions space.
First, M2M manufacturer Cinterion (News - Alert) launched a new product called PXS8. This is an industrial-grade, multimode M2M module that can enable global roaming for voice and data communications. It can open new business opportunities for global enterprises looking to launch M2M solutions.
Also this week, ABI Research came out with a report detailing the future of the application enablement platform and connected devices platform spaces. The report forecasted continued growth in these areas, projecting a total revenue of $3.85 billion by 2017. “AEP and CDP platforms intend to provide more ‘horizontal’ capabilities that will expand the supplier base, end-user markets and ultimately facilitate a more connected planet,” said Dan Shey (News - Alert), M2M practice director at ABI Research.
In other news, USA Technologies has expanded its cashless payment solutions and M2M services in the kiosk market. It is working with the Eaton Corporation (News - Alert) to provide charging stations for electric vehicles. These stations would also have cashless payment capabilities.
Another company making news this week was Prova Systems, a company which has recently launched a cloud-based fleet management application called Fleet Genius. The new application allows companies to manage their fleets more easily with in-depth fleet metrics and alerts. It supports full analyses of vehicle emissions systems and automated diagnostic trouble codes as well.
Finally this week, Telit Wireless (News - Alert) Solutions has introduced an ultra-compact GPS receiver module called the Jupiter SE880. It is based on 3-D embedded technology and is said to be the market’s smallest GPS receiver module.
