By Rich Steeves, TMCnet Managing Editor

Machine to machine solutions are cropping up in nearly every corner of the business world. From helping fleet managers keep track of their trucks and vans, to helping farmers keep tabs on their cattle and chickens, embedded M2M solutions can make any company more efficient and deliver a real return on investment. Each week brings new and exciting stories from the embedded M2M solutions space, and this week was no different. Let’s check out the news from the past few days!

As mentioned, these embedded M2M solutions are key in the telematics space, where fleet managers can realize significant savings by implementing tracking solutions. But, according to telematics expert Trimble (News - Alert), these solutions can also help improve fleet safety. Joyce Tam, product manager for Field Service Solutions at Trimble, discussed how telematics solutions can help fleet managers understand the safety characteristics of their drivers and help change dangerous behaviors. Read more of Tam’s interview here.

While many people who follow the embedded M2M solutions space are aware of the use of this technology in the fleet management space, not all are aware of how M2M solutions can be used in agriculture. In an interview with TMC (News - Alert), Chris Kuntz, director of Marketing at ThingWorx, talked about how his company’s solutions can help farmers. These solutions can be used for smarter watering, better tracking of livestock, and other sustainable farming solutions. One company that has invested quite a bit of time money and research in the embedded M2M solutions space is Sprint (News - Alert), and the company will continue to do so. This week, Sprint announced several initiatives in the M2M space, including the continued development of its already diverse M2M solutions and the expansion of its vast M2M ecosystem features.
