By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

TCS is a company that provides highly reliable, location-based services (LBS). The company offers branded and white-label applications, infrastructure, mapping and content as a developer of complete end-to-end LBS solutions.

Its customers include major consumer brands, foreign and domestic automobile manufacturers, content providers, voice service providers, and an excess of 40 mobile operators and carriers all over the world.

Looking to expand its business, the company recently opened a new sales office located in Johannesburg, South Africa. This office will help the company to concentrate on its marketing and sales activities all over the continent.

The company has also appointed Andy Minnaar to work as the managing director of the new office. In this position, he will look after the operation and sales of the company's complete line of commercial software solutions. This includes location-based services (LBS) as well, the company has stated.

Andy Minnaar comes with more than 10 years of communication technology and managerial experience in the African wireless sector.

"In recent years, we've intensified our focus on international expansion, particularly in Africa,” said Jay Whitehurst, senior vice president of Commercial Software Group at TeleCommunication Systems (News - Alert) Inc. “By establishing a sales office in Johannesburg, we are able to demonstrate our strong commitment to this key market and provide an opportunity to showcase our location-based services and offer customers competitive platform solutions.”

Recently, the company was selected as one of 20 awardees under the Global Tactical Advanced Communication Systems and Services (GTACS) contract. In five years, the Indefinite Delivery - Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) vehicle is estimated to have a ceiling of $10 billion.

For the Warfighter Tactical Communications Systems (News - Alert) and Services (WTCSS), this contract allows DoD agencies to buy TCS' turnkey family of installable satellite systems and associated support services through the Department of the Army.
