TMCnet Embedded M2M Solutions Week in Review

By Rich Steeves, TMCnet Managing Editor

Embedded M2M solutions cover a wide range of uses, from tracking pets to managing fleets of trucks. The space is continuously evolving, and therefore, each and every week there is a great deal of news related to embedded M2M solutions. Here are some of the highlights of the past week!

One company that covers the family end of the embedded M2M spectrum is Securus. It provides solutions to track pets and children, and allow seniors to access emergency care when necessary. Recently, the company came out with an Android version of its software platform for tracking its embedded M2M solutions.

Also this week, car manufacturer Toyota showcased its latest M2M development: a talking vehicle. Its newest technology is an Intelligent Transport System which allows vehicles to communicate with each other and with the roads. The innovation is designed to minimize accidents from missed red lights or pedestrian crossings. “Toyota sees preventing collisions, watching out for pedestrians and helping the driving of the elderly as key to ensuring safety in the cars of the future…we offer the world's top-level technology,” said Toyota spokesperson Moritaka Yoshida.

In other news, A2B Tracking updated features on its UC! Web data management and tracking software.  The software solutions company is aiming to increase productivity and decrease loss and waste. “We are implementing a capability that will revolutionize military maintenance and repair both in terms of technology sophistication and results,” said A2B president and CEO Peter Collins. “Users of UC! Web are seeing tremendous payback due to a dramatic reduction in maintenance cycle time. Further payback comes as item and component failures are identified, supporting predictive maintenance.”

Finally this week, DataArt unveiled DeviceHive, a free open-source, cloud-based M2M framework. "We created DeviceHive with scalability and flexibility in mind. It is not proprietary for any device manufacturer, and is available via open-source for the community. We believe the task of building an M2M solution should be an enjoyable experience," said Artyom Astafurov, chief innovation officer at DataArt and co-founder of DeviceHive.
