TMCnet Embedded M2M Solutions Week in Review

By Rich Steeves, TMCnet Managing Editor

Embedded M2M solutions are everywhere; they help us track our pets and loved ones, they help farmers save money and water and they are taking over the transportation industry. Telematics solutions, for example, help fleet managers cut costs and help driver safety. There was a lot of news in the embedded M2M solutions space this week. Let’s check out some of the top stories!

First up, there was an interview with Jim Reynolds of Trimble (News - Alert), highlighting how embedded M2M solutions can help companies go green while cutting costs. Reynolds explained how Trimble solutions can help companies save on gas by planning better routes, providing proactive maintenance and helping drivers cut down in idling. Saving gas, of course, saves money and the environment at the same time, so it is a double win for companies that leverage telematics technology.

Also this week, Personal Communications Devices (News - Alert) announced a deal with embedded M2M solutions leader Sprint.  PDC’s iDEN Migration portal will allow Sprint’s (News - Alert) data transportation customers to buy hardware quickly and easily. Previously, iDEN customers were forced to go through different independent distributors to obtain hardware from different manufacturers, but the new portal can help customers with black box integration and sensor-based requirements.

Sprint also had big news this week from the LA Auto Show. There the company debuted Sprint Velocity, a global, end-to-end solution that delivers a pioneering mobile integration capability to auto manufacturers. Sprint Velocity helps automakers integrate complex components and vendor relationships required to provide advanced connected services, including news, weather, sports, security, navigation and more.

There you have it! It’s been an exciting week in the embedded M2M solutions space. Check back early and often for more news and updates!
