The beauty of technology is that it can do, well, almost anything. When you look at the breadth of solutions available under the umbrella of embedded M2M solutions, you can see that the range covers everything from keeping track of pets and loved ones to fleet management to 3D displays. This week, there was a wide variety of news about several different corners of the embedded M2M solutions space. Let’s check out some of the top stories!

First up was news from a company that specializes in large screen public touch displays. The company, Spot Labs, has been in business for only nine months, but is staffed by industry veterans. Its goal is to bring the interactivity that customers demand – and are accustomed to – to these displays. Spot Labs has created an Android (News - Alert)-like ecosystem where developers can make applications focused on the user experience, which it says is a unique approach in the digital signage space.

Also this week came a story about a company that is working in the no-glasses 3D space. REACH3D is a company that is focused on auto-stereoscopic 3D, which uses a lenticular lens on monitor screens in place of traditional 3D glasses. With REACH3D’s innovative software, the company can create agile 3D deployments that feature eight or more images. The company’s displays can have different display areas that might have a combination of 3D and 2D images, and companies can change or swap these images as they please, creating ads that really grab passersby.

Finally, this week came an announcement about a new plug-and-play fleet management solution from Geotab. It is suited to all types of engines, and has a tiny form factor that fits underneath the dashboard and works with reliable GPS technology. It can help fleet managers understand where fuel is being spent and how best to invest their assets in the field.
