MiX Telematics to Showcase Fleet Management Solutions for Oil and Gas Industry

By Sujata Garud, TMCnet Contributor

MiX Telematics will showcase proven fleet management solutions for oil and gas industry at the Kuwait International Petroleum Conference and Exhibition (KIPCE), from 10 to 12 December. The company will use the event to illustrate the safety and efficiency benefits that result when implementing an effective fleet management system. KIPCE is co-organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and Kuwait University. MiX Telematics can be visited at Stand C15 at the Hilton Kuwait Resort.

The company’s fleet management solutions provide customers with 24-hour access to vehicle location data, along with reporting tools that deliver key business insights. Operators are therefore equipped to make informed and timely decisions pertaining to overall performance and safety.

Alan Hall (News - Alert), Managing Director of MiX Telematics (Middle East and Australasia), said, “With human error being the cause of up to 80 percent of motor accidents -- as referenced by the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers -- it's critical for oil and gas companies to commit to a solution that helps them to monitor and improve driver safety.”

“An example would be identifying poor driving trends and high-risk drivers -- and planning training interventions accordingly," says Hall. "Our offering -- designed to identify, mitigate and manage driver risk -- combines In-Vehicle Monitoring Systems with driver training, presenting a one-stop safety solution for oil and gas companies.”

Hall added, "In addition to significant safety benefits, our solutions facilitate the realisation of massive efficiencies such as a reduction in fuel costs and lowered vehicle maintenance costs. This also means customers are able to lower their carbon emissions, lessening the impact their fleets have on the environment."

A larger number of customers in Middle East have deployed a MiX Telematics solution, which included an In-Vehicle Monitoring System and targeted driver training. According to Hall, the customers noticed a 72 percent sustained improvement in driver behaviour after only six weeks, and a 15 percent reduction in fuel costs within 12 months of installation.

Recently, MiX Telematics reported strong performance in the first half of its 2012/13 financial year. Due to the extension of existing enterprise contracts as well as the addition of new mega fleets across various industries in various countries, MiX Telematics increased its revenue by 20.3 percent (to R564 million) and its operating profit by an impressive 60.8 percent (to R76 million) in comparison to the same period a year ago.

Through an SaaS (News - Alert) delivery model and value added services, MiX Telematics helps custoers worldwide to reduce their operating costs and risks, improve driver and passenger safety as well as customer service, and lower their carbon emissions.
