Brooks-Berry-Haynie, a Georgia-based electrical contractor, deployed a M2M telematics solution for fleet management with the help of Sprint (News - Alert) and ActSoft. The solution enhances fleet operations, reduces operational cost, mitigates risk and liability besides monitoring driver behavior.
Small machine-to-machine (M2M) devices were mounted in the dashboard of utility trucks that are connected to Sprint’s wireless network. The 4"x4" tracking device houses a Sprint CDMA modem to ensure high speed wireless connectivity.
The availability of faster and more accurate data on driver behavior and the location of trucks saves a lot of money for the business. Brooks-Berry-Haynie (BBH), based near Atlanta, operates 150 electrical utility trucks in Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Florida.
Andy O’Kelley, vice president-Operations, BBH, said, “The new mobility tool and reliable Sprint wireless network brought immediate efficiencies to the company. Our previous tracking devices, software and network can’t compare to what we have today.”
The Sprint-Actsoft solution leverages a CalAmp (News - Alert) 2610 embedded antenna to provide the GPS and location information to BBH management. The fleet tracking device incorporates geofencing or virtual boundary capabilities that deliver customized tracking alerts. The geofencing application also helps locate stolen trucks.
The other features, which optimize the solution, are a full maintenance system that indicates when oil and engine fluid changes and DMV inspections are due, besides giving speeding parameters and gas consumption details.
Russell Mosburg, director-Emerging Solutions, Sprint remarked, “Sprint is keenly aware of Brooks-Berry-Haynie’s needs for high-performing tracking devices, software and a dependable and powerful wireless network.”
“Managing a fleet of 150 trucks in many states, against stiff competition with other electrical contractors is a challenge and this M2M tracking solution on the Sprint network gives them the edge with faster data speeds, reliable information and improved connectivity,” Mosburg added.
According to Sprint officials, the company’s Emerging Solutions Group coordinates opportunities for developers and business partners, like Actsoft, to power their innovative M2M products on its network.
Recently, Sprint Nextel (News - Alert) Corporation announced the offering of the iPad mini and fourth generation iPad to allow customers to connect to its 4G LTE (News - Alert) network.
