TMCnet Embedded M2M Solutions Week in Review

By Rory Lidstone, TMCnet Contributing Writer

Welcome to another TMCnet week in review, recapping some of the top stories in the embedded M2M solutions sector from this past week.

First up, Telit Wireless Solutions introduced the UE910 V2 HSDPA and HE910 V2 HSPA+ modules to its product lineup. Based on Qualcomm (News - Alert) Technologies chipsets, both products are branded for European and North American markets and features dual-band 3G and GSM/GPRS/EDGE support.

The 3G UE910 V2 is an entry-level module, which offers a maximum downlink data rate of 3.6Mbps, while the mid-range HE910 V2 delivers data rate up to 14.4Mbps down and 5.76Mbps up. Both are compatible with Telit's xE910 family.

Next, Gemalto began a collaboration with Yokosuka Telecom Research Park, Fujitsu (News - Alert) Ten and Ertico to launch Japan's first eCall testing facility. This will allow automotive manufacturers in the country to meet the EU's new emergency response standards.

The 112 eCall service is designed to reduce emergency response time and is a pan-European, interoperable M2M system that allows vehicles to automatically call for help in the event of an accident. This new eCall testing facility will be the first to exist outside of Europe.

STMicroelectronics also began a collaboration this week with Tatung to develop an array of smart home appliances which can be interconnected to form a smart home ecosystem. Specifically, ST will develop a variety of new products that will incorporate Tatung's platforms and reference designs.

These new products will use HomePlug (News - Alert) powerline communication protocols and hybrid networks to transform standard electric wiring into a high-speed communications network accessible via power outlet. One product the two companies have worked on combines a remote-controlled LED light, a networked loudspeaker and a Wi-Fi access point.

Another collaboration between Ferrari by Logic3 and GT1 resulted in the release of the Cavallino GT1 Bluetooth speaker dock as part of the Ferrari Cavallion collection. This $649 speaker system features an integrated subwoofer and offers high-quality surround sound in an attractive package.

Indeed, high-quality materials coupled with excellent design allow this Bluetooth speaker dock to offer a luxury experience consistent with the Ferrari brand. Of course, GT1's Class HD Audio technology ensures a natural listening experience with enhanced low frequency response.

Lastly, Anterra Mobility announced the hiring of Andy Greig as senior vice president of sales and business development. In this role, Greig will head up the company's sales efforts for enterprise clients and mobile virtual network enabler partners.

“I’m excited to join the Arterra team. I’ve watched the company’s growth and expansion over the last few months and am looking forward to showing the wireless industry all that Arterra has to offer,” said Greig, who holds an MBA from Pepperdine University and a B.S. in Business Administration, Marketing from San Diego State University.

That's all there is for this week in review. Be sure to check out the Embedded M2M Solutions Channel for more news in this sector.
