Identive Group, Inc. has unveiled a ground-breaking developers’ solution kit, GameChangeR. The kit will allow developers to develop and incorporate contactless radio frequency identification, or RFID technology, into electronic games in a swift manner. Developers are not required to have expertise in RFID technology to use the kit. Objects can work together with virtual environments using RFID, ensuring a more valuable experience for the user.
In a statement, Dr. Manfred Mueller, COO, Identification Products, Identive Group said, “Increasingly, people are interested in creating interactions between their physical environment and the virtual world. In areas such as electronic gaming, this is fueling demand for M2M solutions that allow a device, such as a game piece, to deliver information about itself to a software application, such as an electronic game, that determines how the piece will be used in the game and also allows the game to change the characteristics of the piece by storing new information on it. Identive’s GameChangeR development kit leverages Identive’s expertise so developers can easily incorporate RFID into electronic games with the addition of instant, contactless communications and memory capabilities to game pieces.”
A specifically-configured RFID reader, three GameChangeR tags and a USB–UART converter are included in the GameChangeR RFID solutions development kit. A user-friendly, high-level API is made available by the 13.56MHz, ISO14443A reader, permitting developers to work together with the GameChangeR RFID tags in a secure method. Developers are also not required to have any before-hand experience or expertise in RFID technology to use the kit. The reader and the pre-initialized GameChangeR tags can only work in pairs, guaranteeing the reliability of the tag (News - Alert) content and safeguarding the gaming experience in a specified environment.
Michael Ganzera, VP, Marketing, Identive said, “Our new RFID development kit truly is a game changer for developers, because it allows them to create dynamic and interactive gaming experiences using RFID technology, with no prior RFID experience. This ability to deliver what the market needs springs from Identive’s unique ability to address the entire value chain of RFID, from tags to readers to complete solutions.”
Interested developers can contact Identive for the GameChangeR development kit, which will be made available by February.
