Aclara Technologies recently announced the introduction of the Aclara Mobile Experience (AME) for Apple iOS and Google Android (News - Alert) devices. Developed as a turnkey solution, AME is capable of supporting a number of applications which include usage tracking, bill payment, outage reporting, as well as customer service. Leveraging AME electric, gas, and water utilities will be able to seamlessly integrate an extensive range of consumer-facing applications into one single easy-to use mobile solution.
In a statement, Aclara's VP of Business Development Andy Zetlan, said that, "Aclara has spent considerable time evaluating both industry and consumer requirements and believes that AME is clearly a game-changing approach to mobile consumer engagement by utilities. We've designed AME to achieve flexibility and higher degrees of functionality than prior designs, while remaining focused on security and ease of use for the consumer."
Utilities can customize the AME solution to address specific functional requirements, and will be able to select specific features which they can offer to their consumers such as links to social media tools. Utilities can opt for applications for inclusion in the implementation process and these apps will then run in the cloud thereby offering an easy-to-use interface for the consumer.
Aclara collaborated with several feature providers for providing customers with advanced bill payment, outage/trouble reporting, home-energy manager, and customer service and demand response solutions. Utilities can also incorporate their existing applications into the AME platform via the Aclara toolkit interface. Furthermore, the company has developed an AME interface for its Consumer Engagement solution and is expecting to integrate AME with other similar applications from different companies and applications which support the Department of Energy's Green Button initiative as soon as these interfaces are ready.
The AME, which is a customizable platform, was developed for Aclara by Green Energy Corp, Raleigh, N.C. The platform features an open-source middleware model which allows a wider grouping of apps to appear as one single app for the consumer.
