CalAmp (News - Alert), a provider of wireless communications solutions, has announced its new MDT-7 mobile data terminal is an Android tablet integrated with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity features and can act as a user interface for a range of apps designed for remote and mobile workers.

The MDT-7 mobile data terminal is a 7-inch high resolution display specifically designed for in-vehicle communications applications and it runs on the Android (News - Alert) operating system.

The new solution is packed with triple-axis accelerometer technology, a GPS receiver, front and rear cameras, a 2000 mAh Lithium Polymer battery, along with USB, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. It leverages the CalAmp Mobile Framework (CMF) software to interface with the company’s advanced on-board alert engine PEG(TM) and comprehensive management and maintenance system PULS.

Greg Gower, senior vice president and general manager of CalAmp’s mobile resource management business stated, “We are excited to bring this powerful new mobile data terminal to market, which significantly extends our in-vehicle wireless communications offering, while enabling our customers to customize apps for their mission specific requirements. Coupled with one of our Bluetooth-equipped devices, the new MDT-7 enables customers to turn their vehicles into mobile command and communications centers.”

Gower added, “With a powerful user interface, the MDT-7 can stream video, deliver vital data to and from other local wireless-enabled units, and provide reliable access to on-board and back-office applications. These capabilities facilitate significant efficiency gains for the remote worker, while simultaneously empowering fleet managers to maintain close contact with their mobile workforce and assets.”

CalAmp connects clients to business-critical data and transforms it into actionable intelligence for people, systems and machines. The new mobile data terminal is designed to support mapping and navigation applications and it also supports apps developed for dispatch and routing, driver/worker logging, and other targeted activities.

Customers can also leverage the CalAmp cloud offering in order to take advantage of new or cost-improved devices with little effort. The company added that it also offers remote device configuration and management tools to help users bring down the cost of device ownership.
