Silver Spring to Leverage MongoDB Database for Enabling Real-time Smart Grid Data Platform

By TMCnet Staff

Silver Spring Networks, a provider of enhanced networking technologies that empower power grids, is going to leverage the MongoDB database for capturing and saving large amount of machine-to-machine (M2M) data for its new SilverLink Sensor Network. The network enables developers to create advanced applications and services for utilities and energy consumers. Cutting down the costs considerably when compared to the conventional utility IT infrastructure, the latest solution offers around 10 times faster operational speeds.

The company has provided more than 17.5 million Silver Spring-enabled devices to its customers that help them in enhancing energy management and efficiency. It offers powerful and proven energy networks that can be expanded in a flexible manner according to changing requirements. Its SilverLink Sensor Network enables quick real-time analytics of swiftly changing data and historical data on the basis of various parameters.

Using smart grid data, the MongoDB developer community will now create advanced applications that will provided to the utilities, sensor network operators and consumers through the SilverLink App Store.

“The distributed M2M networks we deploy for smart grid and smart city applications capture millions of data streams that will exponentially grow as more devices are connected,” said Charles Sum, vice president of software architecture and analytics explains at Silver Spring Networks. “Using a new cloud data service to model, correlate, aggregate, analyze and externalize these streams in parallel and in near real-time, the SilverLink Sensor Network will provide customers with insight to significantly increase energy efficiency, conservation and provide a higher level of customer service. With MongoDB’s industry-leading NoSQL position and Silver Spring’s robust ecosystem, the partnership will bring the next generation of apps and developers to leverage the power of the SilverLink Sensor Network.”

“The database standard for modern application development, MongoDB is at the forefront of data management solutions enabling M2M applications like the SilverLink Sensor Network that meet the needs of a connected utility ecosystem,” added Max Schireson, chief executive officer at MongoDB. “MongoDB enables real-time analytics and flexible applications at any scale, helping companies accelerate third-party application development in order to unlock new business opportunities.”

On “Global Internet of Things Day,” Silver Sprint (News - Alert) Networks announced that its smart street light solution was named an American Technology Awards finalist by the TechAmerica Foundation.
