A-Tow Inc. CEO Page Porter was looking for a better way to track her fleet of 44 tow trucks and succeed in the ultra-competitive Atlanta towing wars. Working with Sprint (News - Alert), Porter opted to leverage the power of M2M with a Sprint Connected Fleet solution by Actsoft. Using Actsoft Comet Fleet and Actsoft Wireless Forms, A-Tow has been able to save time and money for its drivers and administrative staff by always knowing what drivers are doing and by enabling them to do more from the road.
With Actsoft Comet Fleet, Porter gained real-time information on where her vehicles are and was able to more quickly dispatch drivers to site, reducing response time and getting help to stranded drivers more quickly. In addition, Porter and her team were able to monitor how their drivers were driving – and identify fuel wasting driving behaviors as well as aggressive driving behaviors. By coaching its drivers, A-Tow was thus able to reduce fuel cost and reduce risk as well.
An Actsoft user since 2012, Porter hasn’t looked back. She explains, “Overly aggressive accelerations by drivers were burning out expensive engine parts, and wasted fuel from idling was straining my bottom line.” The immediate results were a 10-15 percent savings.
With Wireless Forms, A-Tow driers are now able to get much of their paperwork done from the truck at the side of the road. Reducing time spent in the office and ensuring all paperwork is submitted timely and accurately. Drivers can enjoy a clean cab, no carbon paper pads or invoices littering the truck.
Together, these two solutions allow A-Tow to minimize driver tasks and make the necessary decisions immediately and with extremely accurate data.
Porter estimates, “We’ve saved more than tens of thousands of dollars over the years in fuel and invoice expenses with these two solutions.”
Due to her success, Porter developed her own software called TOWED that notifies a car owner of the location their car was towed—saving the headache of phone calls and trips to various locations to find the vehicle.
She has embraced the advantages of m2m technology and connected fleet management solutions, and seen the great benefit in her bottom line and happy employees.
Charles Davidson, Sprint’s general business branch manager who was with Porter in the beginning, added, “Page understands and appreciates technology and innovation…And we’re privileged to think of ourselves as her business partner.”
Porter’s innovation and entrepreneurial spirit is taking her business to new heights—not to mention a fair amount of Atlanta’s largest towing contracts—as she rides M2M technology to the winner’s circle.
