Sprint Augments Push-to-Talk Device Portfolio with Addition of Ultra-Rugged Sonim XP STRIKE

Sprint (News - Alert), the company specializing in “push-to-talk” technologies, has augmented its push-to-talk device portfolio with the addition of new category of Sprint Direct Connect device, Sonim XP STRIKE.


For those who don’t know, Sprint Direct Connect is a push-to-talk service providing three times more push-to-talk coverage area compared to the earlier Nextel Direct Connect. Launched in fall 2011, it is quoted to be wireless industry’s gold standard for push-to-talk with higher coverage.

As the first device from Sonim available in Sprint Direct Connect’s product portfolio, Sonim XP STRIKE is a Sonim-characteristic rugged mobile device featuring instant call setup time on domestic push-to-talk calls, international coverage to Latin American countries that most frequently use push-to-talk technology.

Available for USD $129.99, the new Sonim XP STRIKE delivers toughness beyond military specifications and is stable even when dropped from 6.5 feet. In addition, it can be submerged in up to 6.5 feet of water for up to 30 minutes.

Owens added, “Customers who demand a device to get the job done in the toughest environments know they can rely on Sprint Direct Connect with instant push-to-talk and broadband data across the country with the ultra-rugged Sonim XP STRIKE.”

Sprint Direct Connect’s new ultra-rugged Sonim XP STRIKE is also available with eligible upgrade and two-year service agreement, after a $50 mail-in rebate via reward card (excluding taxes), through direct ship sales channels, including Sprint stores, business sales, telesales (1-800-SPRINT1) and Web sales.

Grant Fay, general manager, Sonim Technologies, said, “Sonim is proud to introduce a new category of device to Sprint’s Direct Connect roadmap: the ultra-rugged phone, the world’s toughest is designed specifically for workers in extreme and demanding environments.”

In recent news, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), a division of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), selected Sprint to provide 2,000 Sprint Direct Connect handsets equipped with an Actsoft GPS tracking and navigation solution to support FEMA's nationwide Mass Evacuation Program.
