This past week, there were many news generators in the Enterprise Solutions community.

Layered Technologies introduced the next-generation Layered Tech Cloud Data Center and XO Communications extended intelligent WAN solution to law firm Dickstein Shapiro LLP. Azteca selected Ericsson (News - Alert) as network provider and San Diego Center for Children adopted OpenDNS Enterprise Insights’ enterprise grade security solution. Plus, Emerson Network Power unwrapped a hybrid energy solution for indoor and outdoor applications.

While there are many reasons for moving to the cloud, cost is a major factor driving many companies to Cloud data centers. But recently secure cloud and hosting services provider Layered Technologies released a next-generation cloud platform, the Layered Tech Cloud Data Center, which offers more than cost. A report by TMCnet contributor Raju Shanbhag shows that it delivers complete management, security and compliance capabilities along with self-service functionality to create a more agile and secure cloud.

As per this report, the Layered Tech Cloud Data Centers are being aimed at SaaS (News - Alert) providers, as well as others, who work in regulated industries. The report suggests these applications can now run a cloud platform that is both agile and capable of providing complete security and compliance performance.

The report quotes Kevin Van Mondfrans, vice president of product management at Layered Tech, as saying, “Layered Tech's next-gen cloud allows enterprises to run their critical workloads in a cloud environment to accommodate complex security needs and meet PCI (News - Alert)-DSS and HIPAA compliance requirements.” He added: “Security and transparency are Layered Tech tenets, and our new Cloud Data Center includes the security and compliance management capabilities for which we are known.”

Shanbhag also reported that San Diego Center for Children had selected OpenDNS Enterprise Insights to provide CIPA compliance for its networks, as well as deliver granular control on its network. With this, the center is expected to get enhanced flexibility and control over its Web filtering policies across five locations.

The report shows that OpenDNS Enterprise Insights is the only enterprise-grade security solution to offer inspection, filtering, protection and reporting on all DNS traffic entering and exiting a user’s network.

Likewise, TMCnet contributing writer Frank Griffin reported that law firm Dickstein Shapiro has selected XO Communication for providing intelligent WAN solution to connect all of its offices throughout the United States.

“Once the connection is made it will have to provide a communications system where they can collaborate, access and exchange information, support daily communication and provide a highly secure and high performance network,” wrote Griffin. As per the report, the communications company is providing more security and protection by adding a dual fiber connection for each office location for an added level of network redundancy.

In another news, TMCnet contributor Rahul Arora reported that Colombian company Azteca Comunicaciones Colombia selected Ericsson as a network provider to deploy Colombia’s largest and most modern fiber optics networks.

Arora reported that as per the terms of this agreement, Ericsson will provide SSR 8000 family, the most recent addition to Ericsson’s IP Edge product portfolio. Ericsson said the solution is suitable to offer modernization of networks that require massive scaling in both data and control planes for fixed and mobile network infrastructures.

Lastly, TMCnet contributor Mandira Srivastava reported that Emerson Network Power (News - Alert) has extended its hybrid energy capabilities for telecom access sites up to 21 kW. The company has readied the NetSure 701H series of hybrid systems for indoor and outdoor hybrid energy applications. It effectively blends power from generators, batteries, solar, grid/mains and other sources to offer the lowest possible energy cost.
