TMCnet Enterprise Solutions Week in Review
By Ashok Bindra
The Enterprise Solutions community has been busy this past week with announcements coming from companies like Apigee, Kool Smiles, Talari Networks (News - Alert), Centna Systems, Ecessa Corp. and Webhosting.net. Besides management solution for software-defined networking, there were new deployments in the cloud and recipients of TMC’s (News - Alert) excellence award.
TMCnet contributor Calvin Azuri reported that Apigee has developed a new API solution for software-defined networking (SDN) architecture. The SDN focuses on reducing existing physical boundaries on switches, routers and controllers via the robust API, thereby driving network performance and resource efficiency, as well as human resource efficiency, and capital expense efficiency, wrote Azuri.
The report quotes Apigee CEO Chet Kapoor, as saying, "Software-defined networking is creating an important new era of networking innovation that will be defined and driven by APIs.” He added, “The ecosystem of apps being built around SDN -- everything from simple task automation to advanced control logic and network management -- will create more agile, efficient, flexible and robust networking configurations.”
In some other news, Tabitha Naylor reported that national dental care provider Kool Smiles deployed Talari Networks’ Mercury WAN appliances for low-cost broadband links with MPLS capabilities. As per this report, Kool Smiles went for the advanced communications technology because the current carrier-class T1 MPLS network in place delivered poor performance with slow file sharing and chronic T1 outages, as well as it dropped VoIP calls.
Naylor also reported that WAN optimization pioneer Ecessa’s (News - Alert) ClariLink was named a recipient of INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine’s Excellence award. The report quotes group editorial director Erik Linask (News - Alert), as saying, “The editors of INTERNET TELEPHONY were pleased to present Ecessa Corporation with an INTERNET TELEPHONY Excellence Award based on the company’s innovation in IP communications. After careful evaluation, it was determined that ClariLink delivers exceptional solutions for its customers and has demonstrated outstanding quality.”
Similarly, contributor Madhubanti Rudra reported that South Dakota's largest telecom company Golden West Telecommunications has selected Centina Systems' broadband service monitoring solution called NetOmnia Operations Assurance, which has been developed as a carrier-class, next-generation fault management solution. It improves network visibility and dramatically reduces the ongoing administration and maintenance, says the report.
According to Centina Systems’ co-founder and CEO Anand Gonuguntla, “NetOmnia offers a complete solution for gaining deep, end-to-end visibility into network operations that dramatically improves the customer experience and network performance while reducing ongoing operations costs.
TMCnet contributor Deepika Mala reported that Web hosting solutions provider Webhosting.net has announced a new VDI solution that will allow users to access their desktop from virtually any Internet connected device or operating system including Windows computers, Macintosh, Linux and even an iPad. The report indicates that to make this connection to the virtual desktop environment, Webnethosting.net supplies a physical terminal.
