HGST recently announced the introduction of the Ultrastar C10K1200 - the industry's highest capacity 10K RPM Hard Drive. The latest offering from HGST has been designed with features which include - a SAS (News - Alert) 6Gb/s interface for reliable data throughput, a 64MB cache buffer for improved read/write response time, and a fast 10K rotational speed for ensuring high-performance computing. Additionally the newly released 2.5-inch Ultrastar C10K1200 comes with low power, high capacity and high performance capabilities that deliver higher density servers, blades and network storage arrays for reducing space requirements and cooling costs while also driving down total cost of ownership (TCO).
In a statement, Peter Korce, vice president and general manager, Dell (News
- Alert) Storage, said that, "We are pleased to be the first to ship server and storage systems using HGST's new 1.2TB Ultrastar C10K1200 enterprise-class drives. The new HGST drives complement our offerings, helping to deliver the performance, capacity, and reliability that customers have come to expect from our Dell PowerEdge and PowerVault solutions."
Datacenter managers are under pressure to address growing storage needs amid substantial reduction in floor space and budgets, as well as ensuring a reduction in power and cooling costs. All of these issues make it hard to meet business growth and expansion needs. However, by picking up the ideal tiered storage strategy, enterprises can benefit from greater reliability, performance, capacity, and power, while also effectively lowering their TCO.
Presently, HGST’s Ultrastar C10K1200 is the industry’s only 1.2TB 10,000 RPM enterprise-class SAS hard drive which offers the perfect solution for 24x7 enterprise applications which include data mining/analysis, business processing, and reliable data-intensive content-on-demand. Within cloud or enterprise datacenter environments with space and/or power restrictions, the 1.2TB Ultrastar C10K1200 drive offers 33 percent more capacity within the same 2.5-inch form factor. This allows IT managers to easily store 28.8 TBs in a 2U, 24-bay rackmount server. With the adoption of the Ultrastar C10K1200 drive datacenters can effectively reduce their AC power and HVAC needs.
Furthermore, to ensure greater data security, HGST has developed select models of the Ultrastar C10K1200 which deliver Bulk Data Encryption that provide increased hard drive-level data security.
