Pivot3, a supplier of failover-protected servers and networked storage, has announced its entry into the data protection market with the introduction of a new Scale-out Data Protection Platform – a solution that is qualified with 10 independent software vendor (ISV) partners.
According to a release by the company, the Pivot3 Scale-out Application Platform provides both SAN and NAS as needed, high availability without clustering or dedicated hardware, improved efficiency by eliminating separately powered servers, and investment protection with a simple scale-out appliance model. Scale-out Data Protection Platform has been deployed by resellers in order to protect exchange of data, medical images and hosted disaster recovery environments. Furthermore, the Pivot3 architecture is built on an open standard that can fit into any existing IT infrastructure.
Pivot3 solutions are ideally suited for the needs of high availability data protection applications. The company also qualifies solutions from major independent software vendors (ISVs) so that the benefits of the Pivot3 consolidated hardware platform can be used in business critical applications. For disk-based backup, data de-duplication, and disk-to-disk-to-tape environments, the combination of Pivot3 with open standard ISVs is claimed to be compelling and unique.
The Pivot3 Scale-out Data Protection Platform simplifies high-capacity installations with an intuitive appliance approach where capacity, performance and high availability scale with the number of appliances. Pivot3 software aggregates the disk, network and compute resources of commodity server appliances to simplify configuration, failover-protect both storage and ISV data protection applications and open up parallel access to the hard disk drives for maximum throughput.
“We have a 100-percent channel model today with 50 channel partners, and we are looking to double that number to 100 as we move into the data protection market,” said Lee Caswell, founder and chief marketing officer at Pivot3, in a statement. “Pivot3 helps reseller partners generate terrific margins by moving up-market into 100 TB SAN opportunities where its consolidated high-availability approach saves end users 40 percent in power and 25 percent in cost.”
