VeriSign (News - Alert) Messaging and Mobile Media have announced the release of VeriSign Xoomerang. This carrier-based mobile media enablement solution is designed to satisfy the fast-growing number of mobile consumers who utilize online social networks and media destinations.
Xoomerang will allow users to view, publish and interact with online destinations through easy-to-use interfaces. As the demand for mobile solutions continue to grow, Xoomerang will meet a significant need in the industry.
“Social networking is positioned to be the next big opportunity for the wireless industry, but to unlock its full potential today requires not only improvements in the mobile user experience but also solutions that leverage the existing operator infrastructure," said Warren Faleiro, vice president, Multimedia Applications for VeriSign's Messaging and Mobile Media division, in a Wednesday statement.
"Using Xoomerang, wireless operators can immediately connect their subscribers to a host of destinations while also providing an enhanced user experience."
Xoomerang is built on the backbone of VeriSign’s highly scalable mobile infrastructure and leverages the company’s extensive carrier relationships and global reach to help operators to make mobile social networks and media enablement a reality for millions of users throughout the world.
This latest solution provides an enhanced user experience with a rich media client for publishing and consuming media. It is also designed to facilitate immediate user adoption using a carrier’s existing infrastructure.
One popular online destination that is available via Xoomerang is YouTube (News - Alert). VeriSign will enable users to easily upload and share clips on the site through their mobile devices. As the popularity of YouTube continues to grow, this will help to drive the demand for Xoomerang.
This latest release from VeriSign is considered to be extremely timely as online social networking is producing staggering growth throughout the world. In fact, according to Gartner (News - Alert), this industry is made up of 180 million mobile users worldwide in 2008 that use some form of mobile social networking services on a weekly basis. Adoption is expected to increase to more than 800 million by 2012.
Xoomerang also offers a Media Interexchange catalog management tool that allows carriers to program pre-integrated destination sites that are available to users from a master catalog of connected sites and to configure custom places.
Users of the tool can then personalize their account when they choose favorite destinations from either a handset or on the Web. As new destinations are added to the catalog, subscribers will receive an automated alert both via text message and on the Internet.
Mobile social networking is no longer a coming trend – it is here. To ensure that they can capture as much of the market as possible, carriers must be able to provide the tools and platform that will enable customers to participate and complete the activities they desire. The Xoomerang from VeriSign does well to fit that need and is set to grow with demand.
