AirMagnet’s (News - Alert) 802.11n WLAN Solution reportedly is being used by Dimension Data, a specialist IT services and solutions provider, to survey, plan and optimize 11n wireless networks throughout Europe.

The company has recently planned and deployed an 802.11n wireless network at one of the United Kingdom’s largest telecom companies.

For Dimension Data’s regional service teams throughout Europe, AirMagnet is the preferred provider of wireless assessment tools. When priority applications such as voice, require a predictable and accurate level of wireless coverage, AirMagnet provides important software solutions used by these teams to plan wireless deployments.

Clients of Dimension Data want the company to provide the latest technology that will offer the best solution for their company’s current needs and future growth. Dimension Data conducted a wireless assessment in May with AirMagnet’s 802.11n WLAN Solution with its most recent project at the large U.K. telecom. This allowed the company to plan the deployment and fold in the necessary elements needed to effectively deploy 11n. As predicted by the AirMagnet products and Dimension Data’s team, a second assessment confirmed that the newly installed network elements were functioning perfectly.

AirMagnet solutions are critical for measuring the impact of 802.11n, modeling deployment scenarios whether deploying a new 802.11n network, or integrating 802.11n technology into an existing infrastructure. It also helps in optimizing ongoing security and performance management. By providing the only independent view of the access points, client and surrounding environment, the products help organizations and solution providers effectively deploy 802.11n networks.

“During the deployment, we measured a range of parameters for the site survey including signal distribution, signal to noise ratio, and speed distribution. AirMagnet’s tools provided this information in graphical format, which we then presented in a report back to the client. This information enabled us to demonstrate to the client the expected throughput of wireless traffic in its new premises, as well as the enhanced wireless coverage when compared with 802.11a, b and g protocols,” said Peter Ellis a Network Integration Director at Europe at Dimension Data. “The results showed that we could achieve transmission rates of around 130Mbit/s, compared with 54Mbit/s when using standard 802.11g.”
