Datasquirt to Enable Text-Messaging Voter Registration for New Zealand Elections
Datasquirt (News - Alert), an Auckland, New Zealand-based company that supplies CONTACT, a multi-channel communication solution, reportedly says that the Kiwi nation’s Electoral Enrollment Center is using its products to facilitate enrollments for an upcoming general election.
“The younger generation’s preferred method of communication is SMS, and Datasquirt is pleased to work with the Electoral Enrollment Center to make it easy for young New Zealanders to register to vote,” said Aaron Ridgway, chief executive officer of Datasquirt.
Under the program, eligible voters can request enrollment packs by sending their names and addresses to Freetext 3676.
During New Zealand’s 2005 general election, 51 percent of all enrollment requests received by the Electoral Enrollment Center were processed via Datasquirt’s SMS solution. The figure for this election is at about 42 percent of all enrollment requests.
“Since early May, when the enrollment drive commenced, we have received more than 100,000 requests for enrollment packs via Datasquirt’s two-way SMS platform,” said Rex Arrell, the Electoral Enrollment Center’s manager for policy and administration.
For easy processing and proper queuing of inbound and outbound text messages, the Datasquirt’s solution CONTACT has been integrated with the center’s existing contact system.
“By using CONTACT by Datasquirt we have efficiently and cost-effectively managed enrollment requests for the upcoming election,” Arrell said..
Datasquirt says that its CONTACT solution is available as Software-as-a-Service and is capable of processing high volumes of message traffic in short time frames with secure access available from most Internet browsers.
The New Zealand voting initiative falls in line with Datasquirt’s overall mission. The company provides online multi-channel, non-voice, communication and business optimization solution through CONTACT.
For year March 31, the company reported strong revenue growth from its CONTACT software.
According to Datasquirt Chairman Lindsay Phillips, the company’s directors were pleased by 113 percent year-over-year growth in CONTACT customers.
“This includes the first nine CONTACT customer contracted in international markets, with new customers under contract or in pilot in North America, United Kingdom and Australia, and a strong sales pipeline in all markets,” Phillips said.
