Sierra Wireless, a provider of mobile broadband network solutions, announced the availability of a new third generation (3G) Ethernet gateway, the AirLink (News - Alert) Raven XE, which provides enterprise customers with round-the-clock unmanned operation of remote assets and high-speed broadband connectivity for wireless transaction processing and data transfer.

The compact Raven XE solution, powered by ALEOS and ARM9 processors and equipped with a 10/100 Ethernet port, meets the demands of customers that require a powerful and high-speed wireless connection for their machine-to-machine (M2M) and portable transaction processing applications, according to said Justin Schmid, vice president of the Sierra Wireless (News - Alert) Mobile and M2M group.

ALEOS, the embedded intelligence available for Sierra Wireless line of AirLink products, features a comprehensive set of embedded protocols that enables seamless integration with legacy equipment.

ALEOS, along with AceWare suite of remote management tools, simplifies device setup and provisioning and provides customers with comprehensive remote configuration and diagnostic capabilities, lowering the total cost of ownership, AirLink said.

The accompanying AceWare suite of device management and configuration tools has also been enhanced to support the new security features of ALEOS. This allows Raven XE users to easily configure the IPSec and Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE) parameters of the Raven XE remotely and in real time.

Raven XE, with its high-speed Ethernet interface and 3G-optimized architecture, suits various commercial mobile or portable network connectivity applications that require 24/7 remote monitoring and demand the capability to quickly send and receive large files such as photos or interactive media content.

The small form factor enables Raven to integrate within small enclosures and makes it suitable for commercial applications such as point of sale kiosks, digital signage and automated teller machines. The rugged design and aluminum enclosure make it suitable for remote industrial and M2M deployments.

To protect data from unauthorized access, Raven XE is provided with IPSec Virtual Private Network and GRE tunneling.

“The power and versatility of the Raven XE Ethernet gateway, along with its compact design, make it a compelling option for either internal or external system integration, while its cost efficiency allows it to be a practical solution for wider scale deployments,” Schmid added.
