MobiTV, a company that develops and offers technology solutions that power an end-to-end managed network for content ingestion, encoding and optimized delivery over mobile and broadband networks, reportedly has announced about its adoption of the ATSC-Mobile/Handheld standard.
ATSC-M/H is the Candidate Standard in the United States that allows the ATSC digital television broadcast signals to be received by mobile devices. This initiative from MobiTV (News - Alert) will allow another option for users to enjoy entertainment and news on the go.
Alan Moskowitz, director of strategic alliances in the CTO Office at MobiTV, has served on the ATSC panel for the past 18 months, and confirms that MobiTV has worked cooperatively to ensure the success of this standard.
Officials at MobiTV say that the future of mobile TV is a hybrid formula of unicast and broadcast technologies. The company’s commitment to ATSC-M/H is focused on a platform that combines broadcast, unicast and interactivity.
CEO and Chairman Charlie Nooney says: “Our focus is on the end user and the technology that will deliver the best mobile experience for them, whether it’s watching your local news, a live sporting event or a personalized vertical application.”
Recently, MobiTV – whose product is shown at right, broadcasting NBC’s hit sitcom, “The Office” – was awarded first place as a Silicon Valley Technology Fast 50 company, receiving top honors in the Internet, Media & Entertainment and Communication category.
Nooney called the designation a barometer of success in MobiTV’s mission to continuously anticipate, develop and deliver a compelling mobile media experience.
“We take great pride, and it’s a testament to the skill and dedication of the team at MobiTV, that our technologies, products and the experiences they provide are being recognized and celebrated,” Nooney said.
MobiTV’s end-to-end platform technology delivers live television, premium and primetime programming, video-on-demand, satellite and digital music services from the top broadcast and cable television networks and major music labels to more than 4 million users worldwide.
