Mobile push and synchronization platform provider VISTO has acquired Good Technology from Motorola by signing a new agreement with the company.

Specialized in offering wireless messaging, Good Technology also provides mobile VPN (virtual private network) data access, device management and handheld security for global enterprise customers.

In January 2007, Motorola purchased Good Technology for more than $400 million and formed the Motorola Good Technology Group (News - Alert).

With the acquisition of Motorola’s Good Technology, VISTO has expanded its mobility offerings as well as its base of customers including many Fortune 500 companies.

Even though the terms of the transaction were not disclosed, both companies intend to close the transaction by the end of February, said VISTO officials.

VISTO explained that the company will now be recognized as a provider of full range secured mobile messaging solutions for enterprises via mobile operators and OEM (original equipment manufacturers) handset manufacturers. Good Technology's wide-ranging service offerings in the U.S., Europe and Asia will facilitate VISTO to offer its customers (both governments and enterprises) with the benefits of a broader range of solutions.

Brian Bogosian, CEO of VISTO, said, "This transaction marks another important milestone in VISTO's emergence as a worldwide leader for mobile access to applications and content, especially messaging and collaboration data. Good's robust enterprise and government solution will complement VISTO's strong operator presence in business and consumer markets."

He added: "As a result of this transaction, VISTO will now provide customers in over 100 countries an open, robust and secure mobile experience for enterprise customers, on over 400 different mobile devices."

Gene Delaney, president, enterprise mobility solutions, Motorola, explained that VISTO's acquisition of Good Technology will now enable Motorola, which is currently facing losses in the mobile field, to focus on its core operations that include network equipment and television set-top boxes, as well as phones.

California-based VISTO enables mobile operators to offer easy-to-use communications services from e-mail and social networking to photo sharing, across a wide set of devices. It has extensive relationships with mobile operators located throughout Europe, North America, and Asia.

VISTO claims that its patented VISTO Mobile platform integrated with ConstantSync technology operates with popular e-mail and social networking services in real-time. The company’s solutions are available through mobile operators including AT&T, Elisa, Rogers Wireless, Qtel (News - Alert), SmarTone, SFR, Softbank Mobile, Sprint, TELUS, T-Mobile, Turkcell and the Vodafone Group.
