The XJTAG IEEE (News - Alert) Std. 1149.x boundary scan system has been adopted by Wavecom as the platform for developing and testing its WMP100 Wireless Microprocessor-based turnkey systems.
Wavecom (News - Alert) built the WMP100 as a boundary scan compatible device. The system solutions from Wavecom are being used across a range of M2M (Machine to Machine) applications.
Wavecom’s search for a boundary scan system to access and verify the pins on the various BGA devices on the development boards led to XJTAG. According to Laurence Damm, field application engineer with Wavecom, XJTAG was selected because of its fast implementation and ability to customize tests for products from entry-level to high-end. XJTAG also provides the freedom to develop a complete set of tests for any application by using the graphical XJDeveloper environment and also helps to achieve high overall test coverage to guarantee the low ppm rates.
Wavecom is using XJRunner, the low-cost, multi-license XJTAG environment for production. It enables Wavecom to quickly re-use proven prototype tests in production. Additional advantages include the ability to carry out separate hardware/software evaluation and high throughput. It is also possible to test the hardware completely within seconds, before the production software is loaded into memory.
The Wavecom WMP100 processor combines application hosting and cellular Internet connectivity in a single core sub-system. The 576-pin ball grid array (BGA) device is used to create turnkey products. The WMP100 and its supporting open software environment enables smaller, lower-power systems when compared to conventional GSM modems for M2M, which host the wireless processing separately from the application.
The XJTAG system is a cost-effective solution for debugging, testing and programming electronic printed circuit boards and systems throughout the lifecycle of a product. Highly integrated BGA-populated printed circuit boards and systems are produced using XJTAG. It helps to reduce the time and cost of board development by allowing early development of reconfigurable test scripts. It is also possible to download pre-written test scripts for popular devices from the XJTAG website.
The WMP100 processor, its configuration memory, and the Ethernet PHY will be connected to the boundary scan chain in a Wavecom M2M module. XJTAG will provide access to every pin, which allows design flaws or soldering faults to be accurately located. It will also allow testing of other devices connected to the WMP100, like SRAM, Flash chips, A/D and D/A converters or Bluetooth modules.
