Gemalto, a provider of digital security solutions, announced that Videotron, a communications company, has selected Gemalto’s (News - Alert) 3G Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) card to provide secure connectivity for wireless phone and data services on its High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) network in Canada.

“Gemalto’s extensive global experience and technology leadership in advanced SIM cards make them an ideal partner for us as we expand our wireless services,” stated Marie Ginette Lepage, general manager, marketing and product development, wireless, at Videotron in a press release.

With Gemalto’s 3G SIM, Videotron will be able to simplify the portability of subscriptions across HSPA devices, providing customers with more mobility options.

Sébastien Cano, senior vice president, telecommunications North America, Gemalto, said, “Videotron will be a very dynamic player in the Canadian market and we look forward to a close collaboration in the development of innovative services for its customers.”

Also, Gemalto delivers mobile connectivity, identity and data protection, credit card safety, health and transportation services, e-government and national security. It offers secure personal devices, such as subscriber identification modules (SIM) in mobile phones, smart banking cards, smart card access badges, electronic passports, and USB tokens for online identity protection.

Traffic redirection is a mandatory tool to ensure retention of outbound roamers on preferred partner networks. In order to be able to negotiate and optimize their International Outbound Tariffs (IOT), operators need to make sure that their subscribers are attached to the right preferred networks. This helps protect their revenues while offering the best quality of service for end-users. Today, as recommended by the GSM Association, the SIM card with the PLMN file is the key element for roaming management.

Videotron Ltd., is a wholly owned subsidiary of Quebecor Media Inc., and is engaged in cable television and cable telephony. Videotron is the Québec leader in high-speed Internet access with more than one million cable modems in its network, and has more than 63,000 client lines in wireless telephony.
