NeuStar, Communology Provide Client/Server Solution for Mobile IM

NeuStar has entered into a frame agreement with Communology to develop a comprehensive client/server solution for mobile instant messaging (IM) on behalf of NeuStar's (News - Alert) mobile network operator customer that operates in multiple countries across Europe.

Communology (News - Alert) is a solution provider of carrier-grade client applications and device testing. The company will act as an official supplier to NeuStar's Next Generation Messaging (NGM) business area, and will be responsible for the development of handset clients and for securing porting to various handsets. NeuStar NGM will thus be free to focus on forging and strengthening customer relationships within its core managed mobile data services.
Officials inform that the joint mobile IM solutions will enable access to MSN, Yahoo and ICQ IM networks. While the phase 1 will include Java phones only, support will be offered for Symbian (News - Alert), Android and Windows Mobile phones in the upcoming second phase. NeuStar and Communology intend to extend their collaboration to other customers, and will provide IM-related offerings such as rich content services and mobile social networking.
Frank Bell, CTO of Communology sees NeuStar as a strong partner that meets their customers' requirements for high-quality end-to-end solutions. He believes that the customers will appreciate the combined strengths in various areas of personal mobile communications services.
According to Guenter Krauss, senior vice president and general manager of NeuStar NGM, this partnership represents a significant step toward opening up the NeuStar IM platform to include other high-quality offerings, while retaining responsibility and improving the quality of service they provide to their customers.
Krauss expects their solutions will strengthen the market positioning for both of the companies.
Apparently, mobile IM is increasing in popularity. As TMCnet recently reported, ClearSky Mobile Media and eBuddy (News - Alert) have come together to bring mobile instant messaging to more than 2 million mobile consumers serviced by ClearSky through their large group of regional carriers in the North American market.
