BayScribe, which provides Web-based dictation and transcription solutions, recently enhanced their BayScribe platform and announced BayScribe Mobile for the Apple iPhone (News - Alert), iPhone 3G and 2nd Generation iPod Touch.

BayScribe believes that the future of handheld dictation lies mostly on smartphones like the BlackBerry (News - Alert) and iPhone, because it reduces the dependency on single-purpose devices.

For BlackBerry, BayScribe released a similar application, BayScribe Mobile for BlackBerry, last summer.

The new application for iPhone and iPod Touch allows users to quickly submit high-quality digital dictation into BayScribe Dictation platform from anywhere they have an Internet connection.

“Our goal is to make it quick and easy for Authors to dictate into our system and what better than the iPhone,” said Ron Neuenberger, president of BayScribe. “Authors get all of the features they are accustomed to including Rewind, Fast Forward, Insert & Overwrite… plus they can add a Subject ID and pick a Report Type, all things which speed the report creation process.”

BayScribe says a large percentage of Authors already carry these smartphones, so the new platform will provide them with the ability to dictate whenever and wherever they wish to do so.

BayScribe also said it is working with VMware  for dictation solutions and recently implemented a cloud-based dictation solution for hospitals and other healthcare providers on VMware’s virtualization and management suite, VMware Infrastructure 3.

“As we continue to work more closely with VMware, look for expanded mobile offerings from BayScribe in the later part of the year,” said Steve Bonney, VP of Business Development at BayScribe.

VMware reportedly bought Trango (News - Alert) Virtual Processors, a French company that specializes in virtualization software for mobile phones, back in November 2008. With this acquisition, VMware is in a position to offer advanced software solutions that support multiple operating systems on a single phone.
