COMSTAR – United TeleSystems, an operator of integrated telecommunications services in Russia and the CIS, has selected Smith Micro Software’s connection management software to enable seamless data connectivity across multiple mobility devices and wireless networks for its entire subscriber base.

Smith Micro (News - Alert) Software, Inc., develops mobility solutions that enable seamless broadband connectivity and next generation of media and mobile convergence products over wireless networks.

Smith Micro officials say that as part of the agreement, the company will deploy its QuickLink Mobile multi-mode connection manager to support WiMAX and WiFi (News - Alert) network access for COMSTAR-UTS’s subscribers across a wide variety of mobile devices, PC cards, USB modems and embedded modems in laptops.

Officials claim that QuickLink Mobile ensures greater customer satisfaction and reduced customer support costs by automatically detecting what type of subscriber device is accessing COMSTAR-UTS’s network and facilitating that access through a standard, easy-to-use interface.

“Our work with COMSTAR-UTS reinforces Smith Micro’s leadership position in providing solutions that ensure secure, simple and ultra fast WiMAX (News - Alert) network access, and represents an exciting expansion of our company’s reach throughout Russia,” said William W. Smith, Jr., president and CEO of Smith Micro Software, Inc, in a statement.

Smith, Jr.said that migrating from 3G to 4G and beyond can be complex for service providers, and QuickLink Mobile helps reduce that complexity by offering subscribers the flexibility, reliability and ease-of-use that are must-haves for an optimum mobile WiMAX user experience.

“QuickLink Mobile gives us a competitive edge in our continuing WiMAX and WiFi roll-out through its automatic device detection and secure network access, which will drive a positive subscriber experience in our services,” said Alexandr Gorbunov, vice president of strategy and development at COMSTAR-UTS.

Gorbunov is of the opinion that this ease of use will accelerate greater adoption of new services that leverage 4G bandwidth, which -- in turn -- will drive our bottom-line revenues.
