Ethos Networks has announced the introduction of its new E Series Carrier Ethernet Transport (CET) switch, E-240, that delivers a comprehensive mobile backhaul transport solution.
“Ethos Networks’ is entering the mobile backhaul market now as many operators and transport backhaul providers are still examining new IP (or) Ethernet options,” said Michael Howard (News - Alert), Principal Analyst at Infonetics Research.

The product is designed to overcome traffic congestion, deliver improved Quality of Service (QoS), and assist differently engineered networks to allow a smooth two way traffic flow with low latency.
“Ethos Networks’ comprehensive solution for Ethernet transport is ideally suited to meet the challenges arising from the migration of mobile backhaul to packet–based infrastructure,” said Yossi Shussman, CEO for Ethos Networks.
The company claims that its technology is ahead of Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy (PDH), a method to transport large volumes of traffic that almost allows data transfer at the same rate of original transmission, and Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) or Synchronous Optical NETwork (SONET), a method within which big chunks of multiple digital data streams and packets are journeyed either by lasers or Light Emitting Diodes (News - Alert).
“Carrier Ethernet with QoS and timing (or) synchronization is the natural growth path from PDH (or) SDH primarily because it solves the disconnect between fast rising backhaul traffic and flat subscriber ARPU--but also because Ethernet is standardized, scalable, and operates both at the service and transport layers,” said Howard.
It is a well documented fact, as reported earlier by TMCnet, that the intense demand for IP related technologies and solutions has gone through the stratosphere, and it is severely stressing out networks to deliver due to traffic congestion.
Flat rates are causing headaches for operators since more and more people are demanding, as reported earlier by TMCnet, flat rates and service providers are more than willing to oblige to stay afloat in the market, but Average Revenue Per User and profit margins are dwindling.
However, operators moving away from this trend could make more profits, reported TMCnet, since advanced second-by-second and byte-by-byte monitoring billing packages are becoming more easily available and are able to keep pace with new evolving long term evolution technologies and profits.
The E-240 solution is based on standardized Provider Backbone Bridging (PBB) and PBB – Traffic Engineering (PBB-TE), delivers up to 240 Giga bits per second (Gbps), has low jitter, low latency recovery that is below 50 milliseconds, and combines IEEE (News - Alert)-1588v2 and Synchronous Ethernet based on G.8261 and G.8262 to address timing and synchronization issues found in mobile backhaul. It also offers an integrated hybrid card combining 1GB and 10GB Ethernet for maximum flexibility.
“Ethos E-240 Carrier Ethernet Transport switch will allow service providers to deploy carrier-grade, standards-based backhaul networks without compromising service availability and quality,” said Shussman. “Ethos solutions enable a smooth migration from legacy TDM backhaul of 2G, through mixed backhaul of 2.5/3/4G services and towards a pure-packet 4G LTE (or) WiMAX (News - Alert) network.”
