Clickatell has announced that the US Department of State has selected the company to build and power the online enrollment process and support the global delivery of  'live' mobile speech highlights via SMS during President Obama's 4th of June 2009 historic speech from Egypt to millions of international citizens all over the globe.

President Barack Obama, the White House Administration, the US Department of State and Clickatell (News - Alert) have officially pronounced this unique first in mobile telecom history as a 'mobile town hall without borders,' which allows enrolled members to send SMS reaction views, thoughts and analysis via their cell phones back to the US Department of State regarding President Obama's speech, and filtered, government reviewed comments will be posted online for the entire world to read.
Yes, you can - be a part of history, that is.
The first step is to log on to the US government’s specific enrollment Web space, fill up a mandatory form, and then register free of cost. The dual direction communications can be in any language.
"SMS allows for mobile social media and information sharing to billions, and the Obama administration continually amazes me as they find ways to communicate to ordinary people with extraordinary messages," said Pieter de Villiers, Chief Executive Officer, Clickatell. "Just about everyone in the world carries a mobile phone, and the use of SMS to communicate important information -- live as the world listens -- is truly astounding. People can now be involved as the conversation happens. We are honored to be a part of this momentous occasion in sending millions of messages to interested citizens."
Also of historical significance is that this exercise is probably the single biggest social network exercise in the history of telecommunications given that more than four billion cell phones have been sold on this planet, and it leverages the growing consumer trend, TMCnet reported, which indicates that a high percentage of people turn to social networks to communicate, recommend and seek advice for all sorts of stuff.
Most of President Obama’s initiatives and speeches or select chunks of his speeches have already ranked as important historical - national, international, technological, medical and Green landmarks.
In Cairo, he President is calling for a new relationship between the United States and the rest of the world, and the Muslim world.
Some of Barack Obama’s – both as a presidential candidate and as President as well as some of his administration’s first’s procedures have been covered earlier by TMCnet.
Prior to the swearing in ceremony, TMCnet reported, “Barack Obama is widely accepted as the soon-to-be first Digital President of the Unite States of America and this inauguration is planned and projected as the first most open and accessible one in history.”
The success of President Barak Obama’s election campaign can be partly attributed to Free Conferencing’s FreeConferenceCall service, TMCNet  reported, and during the campaign, Obama reportedly used Free Conferencing’s SimpleEvent product to contact 1000 field agents at a time for strategic and timely voice casts.
