ST-Ericsson is reportedly extending its cooperation with Hojy Wireless, a provider of EDGE and TD-SCDMA data solutions, to bring high-speed mobility to the Chinese computing market.
ST-Ericsson (News - Alert) provides wireless platforms and semiconductors and already has a successful business relationship with Hojy. The company will use the industry’s first 65-nm TD-HSPA modem from ST-Ericsson’s (News - Alert) Chinese subsidiary T3G. The M6718 will help Hojy to develop the next generation of high-speed mobile broadband modules to power data cards, USB dongles, notebooks and smartphones in China.
Both companies said that completed end products include the newly launched DELL Inspiron Mini 10 netbook and the T920 USB data card from Alcatel Shanghai Bell.
Pascal Langlois, chief sales and marketing officer at ST-Ericsson, said Hojy as one of the leading suppliers of wireless data cards and module products. Its next generation of TD-SCDMA solutions will allow consumers in China to enjoy high-speed mobile broadband, making the Internet experience truly mobile.
“ST-Ericsson is driving innovation in the TD-SCDMA market in China,” said Champion Wang, CEO of Hojy. “With their commitment to R&D, expertise in China-specific solutions and the wide range of global platform solutions, we are able to meet our customers’ needs and respond to the fast-moving markets.”
Hojy modules based on the M6718 can be purchased from Q1 2010.
In September, ST-Ericsson and its Chinese subsidiary T3G launched the industry’s first TD-HSPA modem chip samples in 65nm. Because this new chip is smaller than existing products, users can implement it easily in mobile devices. This chip can also reach significantly lower power consumption.
