U.S telecom carrier Alltel Wireless has announced this week that it made available the Samsung (News - Alert) DoubleTake handsets at its retail stores across the nation as well as on its Web site. The phone is priced at $39.99 after rebate with a one-year contract on a qualifying rate plan.

The Samsung DoubleTake is a new handset that company officials said will make sending text messages "far easier" because the device comes with a sliding full QWERTY keyboard. This is an ideal phone to use while travelling as it allows messages of large pictures to be sent to friends and family.

Available in red and charcoal gray, the Samsung DoubleTake looks to be targeting texters. The handset includes a sliding full QWERTY keyboard, 1.3 megapixel camera, full-color external LCD screen, Bluetooth capabilities, built-in speakerphone and the internal phone book to hold up to 1,000 entries.

The new mobile phone also allows its customers to create enhanced flexibility and social networking.

“If you’re always on the go, the Samsung DoubleTake will be the perfect holiday gift,” said Wendy Michell, director of device strategies for the Alltel (News - Alert) Divesture Trust. Alltel is likely to provide Energy Star-qualified power adapters with its mobile phones and accessories.

Alltel said the Samsung DoubleTake and 1-year contract option is available only to customers in the 91 cellular market areas that Verizon (News - Alert) Wireless has to divest, and which will operate as Alltel Wireless until the Department of Justice and Federal Communications Commission approve the sale agreements with AT&T (News - Alert) and Atlantic Tele-Network.

According to Alltel, its users can enjoy two-year postpaid handset pricing while signing one-year contract agreements, which delivers a level of flexibility that no other carrier in the country offers.
