Airvana, Inc., a provider of mobile broadband services, has reportedly launched version 8.0 of its Evolution Data Optimized Rev. A, a version, which comes with improved radio network performance allowing operators to increase the capacity and performance of their mobile broadband networks once installed in their existing radio access network equipment.

Airvana’s (News - Alert) EV-DO Release 8.0 is said to address the growth in mobile broadband data traffic in several important ways. By enhancing the radio network controller load balancing function, this version is said to ensure that the resources within the radio access network are distributed to serve smartphone and data card traffic in an effective manner.

Moreover, this new version also optimizes the way network control messages are transmitted, so the existing infrastructure can handle more devices, call activity, and in-session user mobility. Additionally, the enhanced Radio network performance available in Release 8.0 also is said to contribute to higher data rates for users in weak signal areas.

As reported, the newly launched EV-DO Release 8.0 will be available to operators through Airvana’s newly-established relationship with Ericsson. Ericsson recently acquired Nortel’s CDMA business and LTE (News - Alert) assets in North America and eventually Airvana’s agreement with Nortel was assigned to Ericsson as part of the acquisition.

“We look forward to a long and successful relationship with our new partner Ericsson (News - Alert),” said Randy Battat, CEO at Airvana.

Airvana’s official also mentioned that the new release is available for new EV-DO network deployments and also as a software upgrade for existing networks.

Headquartered in Chelmsford, Mass., USA, Airvana’s technology and products, from comprehensive 3G femtocell solutions based on its HubBub CDMA and UMTS femtocells, to core mobile broadband network infrastructure, are stated to enable operators to deliver compelling broadband services to mobile subscribers, wherever they are. The company’s products are deployed in 70 commercial networks on six continents.
