Aircel, a Pan-India telecom operator serving a subscriber base of more than 30 million, and Infosys Technologies Ltd., have reportedly announced the launch of a mobile application store by Aircel.
The Aircel Application Store is expected to open up a “world of possibilities” for consumers by offering several ready-to-use experiential applications suitable for various devices, said sources at Aircel.
The “ready-to-launch” application platform will be powered by Flypp from Infosys (News - Alert). This platform will integrate into Aircel’s technology environment. Additionally, the Aircel Application Store will offer applications drawn from the Infosys-managed ecosystem of independent software vendors and innovators in India and globally.
“We are delighted to partner with Aircel on their strategic initiative to redefine consumer experience,” said S. D. Shibulal, COO and member of the board, Infosys. “Flypp is part of our continued thrust to provide platforms and products to help our clients rapidly capitalize on new business opportunities.”
Smart applications deliver a personalized and interactive user experience. Mobile service providers are trying to derive greater value from providing digitized applications than from just providing connectivity. Flypp from Infosys is a plug-and-play model that offers more business opportunities for mobile operators.
Flypp is targeted at the mobile application market, allowing service providers to monetize digital content. It is expected to facilitate the enterprise/business process on the go.
Gurdeep Singh, COO of Aircel, said that Aircel has kept its promise to offer a range of applications to customers. Application stores have changed the lives of consumers across the Globe and the Aircel Application Store will strive to do the same in India, he said. It will provide a broad selection of most relevant applications to choose from for consumers. They can select the most convenient method among Voice, SMS, GPRS or the Internet on their mobile phones.
