A recent report by Strategy Analytics (News - Alert) reportedly revealed that touchscreen devices, with their large display size, are the next big thing in mobile Internet.

The report, “Touchscreen Mobile Browsers: Best Practice Guidelines and Browser Evaluations,” utilizes benchmark evaluations of leading touchscreen browsers from Apple, Google, Microsoft, Nokia, Novarra (News - Alert), Opera and Skyfire.

The report defined a set of practice guidelines pertaining to browser layout, navigation, zoom, bookmarks and presentation for providing a superior touchscreen mobile device browsing experience.

“It is important that the browser offer a useful, usable and compelling touchscreen mobile internet experience,” Paul Brown, senior user experience research analyst at Strategy Analytics. “The Apple (News - Alert) iPhone, with its Safari browser, has set the bar high for all other mobile browsers.”

“Users desire a mobile browsing experience akin to their desktop computer—including the ability to view video and experience full flash, directly in the browser,” Kevin Nolan, vice president at Strategy Analytics, said.

Boston-based Strategy Analytics, Inc is a leading research organization that concentrates on market opportunities and disruptive forces in the areas of automotive electronics and entertainment, broadband connected home, mobile and wireless intelligent systems implementation strategies and high frequency market intelligence. The company has offices in the U.K., France, Germany, Japan, South Korea and China. It associates with clients through annual multi-client services, management team workshops and custom consulting engagements.

In November, TMCnet reported that according to another Strategy Analytics report, mobile phone users in both the U.S. and Western Europe have a so-called strong interest in having some form of a touchscreen keyboard for their wireless device, whether it’s entirely touchscreen or in addition to other types of keyboards.
