Novatel Wireless, a company providing wireless broadband access solutions for use in portable personal computers, handheld computing and mobile devices, has reportedly selected ANADIGICS’ WCDMA/HSPA and EDGE power amplifiers (PAs) for two new wireless HSPA+ Mobile Broadband USB modems.

According to Novatel officials, HSPA+ is the next evolution of high-speed packet access (HSPA) wireless broadband technology, offering greater capacity for data throughput compared to current 3G networks.

'We are proud to play a part in the continuing development of the mobile broadband ecosystem by supporting Novatel Wireless' (News - Alert) development of industry-leading devices like these new Ovation wireless broadband USB modems,' said Mike Canonico, vice president of Worldwide Sales for ANADIGICS, in a statement.

Canonico said that the company’s commitment to innovation in RF solutions over 25 years has enabled ANADIGICS to become a valued partner, providing RF solutions and application support for mobile devices that enable early deployments of advanced wireless technologies like HSPA+ and LTE (News - Alert) which are driving growth in wireless data applications worldwide.

Novatel Wireless' Ovation MC996D and MC998D wireless broadband USB modems have received industry compliance from the Global Certification Forum (GCF), a process that involved several hundred product lab test cases and extensive field trials that measured the performance of the Ovation MC996D and MC998D on different 3G networks in Europe.

The company officials said that the testing conducted to achieve GCF certification ensures that the Ovation MC996D and MC998D products will have the highest reliability and functionality on HSPA+ mobile networks throughout the world.

ANADIGICS, Inc. is a provider of semiconductor solutions in the rapidly growing broadband wireless and wireline communications markets.

The company's products include power amplifiers, tuner integrated circuits, active splitters, line amplifiers, and other components, which can be sold individually or packaged as integrated radio frequency and front end modules.

Recently Altair Semiconductor and ANADIGICS announced cooperation focused on driving LTE technology adoption. Altair is a major player in 4G technology developing the world’s most advanced mobile semiconductors for handheld devices, while ANADIGICS provides industry-leading radio frequency integrated circuit (RFICs) for the growing broadband and wireless communications markets.

Both companies have significant experience in the wireless communications industry and, together, have already delivered innovative solutions to the marketplace.

In this latest cooperation, Altair is integrating ANADIGICS power amplifiers (PAs) into the recently announced FourGee LTE USB ExpressCard UE (User Equipment).

The card has undergone extensive and successful interoperability testing (IOT) and is currently being used in various field activities throughout the world. LTE is the natural evolution to existing, widespread 3G networks around the world.

It is gaining strong momentum worldwide, with 42 LTE network operators in 21 countries already announcing a commitment to the 4G technology.
