Truphone has announced the availability of its popular, easy-to-use Truphone application for four more popular Nokia (News - Alert) smartphones.
The updated application will enable a large number of Nokia owners to ring up significant savings by taking advantage of Truphone’s (News - Alert) broad range of calling plans and services including free calls between Truphone users when both parties are in Wi-Fi and low international rate calling when outside of WiFi (News - Alert).
For the Nokia N86, Truphone has also updated its application, with the introduction of a complete VoIP engine that allows owners of Smartphones to place and receive calls when in Wi-Fi range.
“Truphone’s legacy began on a Nokia device and we have continued to develop and improve our applications for our loyal Nokia customer base,” Truphone founder and CTO James Tagg (News - Alert), said. “The new devices include the E52, E55, E72, and the E75– and the addition of Wi-Fi calling to the N86. Now a greater number of Smartphone users can take advantage of our low-cost calling rates to keep in touch with their friends, family and colleagues wherever they may be around the globe.”
With the availability of four more handsets, Truphone is now compatible on nearly three dozen Nokia devices. The new version is immediately available as an SMS over-the-air download, from the Truphone web site and in the future will be available in the Nokia Ovi store.
The new Truphone-enabled Nokia devices include E52, E55, E72 and E75.
Nokia device owners, after downloading and installing the Truphone application to their handsets, will have the ability to take advantage of two calling options:
- Truphone Wi-Fi calling: Calls to other Truphone users can be made or received for free when both parties are in Wi-Fi. When the Truphone caller is Wi-Fi and the receiver is out of Wi-Fi on a mobile or a landline, calls can be made at Truphone’s low calling rates.
- Truphone Anywhere: Designed for international calls made when customers are connected to their home country mobile networks. These calls are local calls which are routed over the Truphone network to their destination landline and mobile phones worldwide at Truphone’s low rates. This service is intended for use in the user’s home country as savings cannot be guaranteed abroad.
On these Nokias, the users of Truphone will also receive their own local phone numbers that can be dialled directly, with the calls either received over WiFi or forwarded by Truphone to the phones’ GSM numbers.
In related news, Truphone launched Truphone Local Anywhere, a global GSM service that makes all calling truly local for businesses and consumers who travel frequently.Deepika Mala is a contributing editor for TMCnet. To read more of her articles, please visit her columnist page.
